For the fourth year in a row, Palm Beach and the Breakers Resort provided the final stop
on the 2012 Charles Evans PCF Pro/Am Tour. Bill Finneran, a long time supporter of the
Prostate Cancer Foundation and a participant in the event opened the weekend with the
traditional player cocktail party at his magnificent ocean front home in Palm Beach.
On Saturday, Braman MotorCars Palm Beach again transported all the players in
Rolls Royces to a lunch at the Flagler Steakhouse before hitting the courts for the first
afternoon of competition. By the end of the afternoon's play and the completion of 40
matches, teams starting to emerge as possible contenders included: Lorne Abony / Jared
Palmer; Arik Kislin / Robert Kendrick; Tim Gannon / Don Johnson; Christie Gannon
/ Vince Spadea; Bruce Makowsky / Sandor Noszaly; Vahan Gureghian / Josh Cohen;
Danny Weingeist / Graydon Oliver; and Brian Reynolds / Guillermo Canas.
After a full day of competition, players were treated to a cocktail and dinner party at
the home of Joel Pashcow. The Winter chic themed event was a huge success with its
memorable blue and white ambient LED lighting, to reflect the PCF colors. Guests dined
al fresco under a gorgeous waterfront tent while enjoying a variety of savories, sweets and
champagne. The players socialized while being entertained with legendary tennis pro
impersonations and a fabulous soloist.
On Sunday, players were treated to another day of glorious Florida weather. After
a barbeque lunch, followed by an entertaining singles exhibition between two former
singles stars, Vince Spadea and Guillermo Canas; tour players prepared for the last day
of the event. After completing the final two rounds, finalists were decided by determining
which teams won the most games in their individual groups. In one final, Tim Gannon
and pro partner Don Johnson were matched up against first time entry, Californians
Bruce Makowsky and Sandor Noszaly. Tim and partner Vince Spadea reached the Palm
Beach final back in 2010 only to be defeated by Dick Merkin and Aaron Krickstein.
Not to be denied this time, they ended a great tournament showing by beating Bruce and
Sandor in the final. The other final featured another first time entry out of Texas, Danny
Weingeist, and regular pro participant Graydon Oliver playing the Hamptons champions,
Arik Kislin and Robert Kendrick. In a match some might consider an upset, Danny and Graydon defeated Arik and Robert in a closely contested match. This was the first loss
for Arik and Robert after winning 9 matches in a row! Congratulations to all four teams for
providing 2 exciting finals.
As can be seen from the final standings on the leader board, Joel Pashcow and Tim
Gannon have emerged as the two Charles Evans PCF Pro/Am Tour champions for 2012.
Joel returns as champion for an unprecedented fourth year in a row and Tim wins for
the first time after 2 strong finishes in the Hampton’s and Palm Beach. Tim should
keep a lookout for another member in his family that might also be a contender for tour
champion down the road!
On behalf of The Prostate Cancer Foundation, I would like to take this opportunity to
