Palm Beach Event Summary

As the second year on the Charles Evans PCF Pro/Am Tour came to a close, players headed south to The Breakers Resort in Palm Beach for the last event of the year. As is tradition, participants gathered for the players meet and greet cocktail party at the fabulous home of Joel Pashcow, where guests mingled and enjoyed sumptuous hors d’euvres, cocktails and champagne. With beautiful waterfront views, the Palm Beach’s “Who’s Who” and tennis legends kicked off a memorable weekend.

After being driven to the tennis facility in Bentleys courtesy of Braman Motorcars Palm Beach, and enjoying lunch, players hit the courts for the first afternoon of competition. As the dust settled after the first day of tennis, a number of teams emerged as the front runners: Russell Geyser / Mark Knowles, John Cohlan / Andre Pavel, George Norcross / Sebastien Grosjean, Brian Reynolds/Jared Palmer, Tim Gannon / Vince Spadea and Dick Merkin / Aaron Krickstein, all unbeaten in their first 2 matches.

At sunset, donors, players and their guests gathered at the ocean-front home of Christie and Tim Gannon for the Charles Evans PCF Pro Am Tour’s Palm Beach finale Party of The Year. Guests arrived into an oceanic, aqua ambient lit cocktail party and indulged their taste buds with exquisite shrimp, stone crab claws and other delights.  They flowed through to the amber lit Caribbean Island inspired dinner party enjoying lobster and filet alfresco, entertained by a steel drum band.  Guests then relaxed at the beach cabana “after party” with decadent desserts and florescent lit palms. The Bonefish Grill sponsored all of the food.

Following a barbeque lunch on Sunday, tour players prepared for the final day of the event.  After two more rounds, four teams found themselves in the two sets of finals. The first featured  Russell Geyser, a 2009 victor in Indian Wells and current top ten doubles player Mark Knowles against another former Palm Beach champion John Cohlan, and former top ranked singles player Andre Pavel. After a great match for both the players and spectators, Russell and Mark emerged as victors.

In the other final, Tim Gannon and partner Vince Spadea, lost to Dick Merkin and Aaron Krickstein in a thrilling nail biter. This was a first time occasion for Tim Gannon in his first Charles Evans PCF Pro/Am Tour final and the second title in a row for Dick Merkin, a long time competitor in previous events around the country.

Congratulations to all of the players! The two days of matches featured not only exceptionally entertaining tennis but a very high level of play for all the spectators.

As can be seen from the final standings on the leader board, Joel Pashcow and Sam Herzberg have emerged as the two Charles Evans PCF Pro/Am Tour champions for 2010. Joel returns as champion for the second year in a row and Sam wins for the very first time. Both Sam and Joel were honored and awarded their trophies at an exclusive PCF New York dinner at Daniel.

On behalf of The Prostate Cancer Foundation, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the players that competed around the country at the PCF Tour events, The Charles Evans Foundation, as well as, all of our sponsors: Movado, Babolat, Braman Motorcars Palm Beach, Cote de Chic Event Management, Neiman Marcus Palm Beach, RockBand by Lee Dahlberg, Herschel Bonchek, Thorlo and Menaji Skincare.
