The kickoff to the 2010 Charles Evans PCF Pro/Am Tour took place once again at the always popular Indian Wells Tennis Garden over the final weekend of the exciting BNP Paribas event. Players and guests gathered on Friday evening in the private center court suite for the traditional meet and greet cocktail party. After meeting up with old friends and reviewing the draw, teams readied themselves for the upcoming 2 day pro/am.
After the first day, odds favored Steven Abelowitz and his partner Ross Hutchins taking on the winner of the Joel Pashcow / Michael Mertinak and Stephen Gordon / Scott Davis match to be played the next day. The other division saw 2 finalists emerge, Meier Teper / Frantisak Cermak versus Sam Herzberg / Jonathan Schneider. Following lunch, players were treated to a pair of great mens’ singles semi-final matches from the suite, featuring Ivan Ljubicic vs. Rafael Nadal and Andy Roddick vs. Robin Soderling. Ljubicic emerged as did Roddick to compete for the trophy the next day.
The Saturday evening party took place at the scenic Indian Wells Golf Resort where guests were treated to cocktails and alfresco dining overlooking the course on a more than perfect weather evening. In addition to Jonathan Schneider’s “spot on” Pro Player impersonations, Charlie Evans’ 5 year old daughter Lily collected autographs from Pros, Ams and guests on her Giant Tennis Ball.
Following the second day of play, Sam Herzberg and his partner Jonathan Schneider defeated Meier Teper and Frantisak Cermak in a closely contested final winning 7-6, 7-5. Congratulations to Sam and Jonathan for their first title on the tour!
In the other division, Joel Pashcow and his partner Michael Mertinak defeated Stephen Gordon and Scott Davis. They advanced to the final against Steven Abelowitz and Ross Hutchins, claiming the title in that division.
During the award ceremony, Lily helped present the trophies and checks to Ams and Pros making her the youngest awards presenter on the PCF Pro Am Tour. After lunch in the suite, participants were treated to the ladies and mens’ singles final of the BNP Paribas event.
