Greenwich Country Club Event Summary

The second stop on the Charles Evans PCF Pro/Am Tour brought the competitors cross country from the hard courts in Indian Wells, California to the clay at the private Greenwich Country Club in Greenwich Connecticut. The event kicked off with a scenic cocktail party at the home of Laurie and Peter Grauer on the Greenwich Sound. The star studded guest list included business leaders, former tennis champions and baseball hall of famer Tommy Lasorda.

On Saturday morning, spectators were treated to a highly entertaining exhibition match between Johan Kriek, Jimmy Arias and the Jensen brothers, Luke and Murphy. Following a courtside luncheon, eager PCF Tour competitors took to the courts for round robin play, while fans and PCF supporters excitedly looked on. With trophies and first day results on display, all players and guests experienced an evening of cocktails, dinner and entertainment including hilarious stories from the pros and Tommy Lasorda.

The following morning, Grand Slam Doubles Champions Ellis Ferreira and Rick Leach provided the Greenwich Country Club juniors to an informative hour of instruction, drills and tennis tips. In the afternoon, tour players collected at the courts for a barbeque and prepared for the final day of the event. In the two featured title matches, Larry Whelan, in his first PCF Tour event, and his partner Jimmy Arias defeated Larry Leads and Jared Palmer 6-4 6-2. In the other final, Doug Virtue, also a first time competitor, and partner Ellis Ferreira, defeated favorites David Kabiller and Richey Reneberg 7-6.

Congratulations to the winners and finalists! Both matches featured exceptionally entertaining tennis for all of the spectators. As can be seen from the current standings on the leader board, Joel Pashcow has now taken the lead closely followed by Bob Bales, Russell Geyser, Larry Whelan, Doug Virtue, David Kabiller, Larry Leeds and Dick Merkin.

Tour points determined from the results of this event can be viewed on the leader board.
